Applications are invited for graduate research assistant positions (MSc), beginning in the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 semester, in the School of Earth, Environmental, and Marine Sciences (SEEMS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Two positions are available. The research component is aimed at developing methods for the detection of endangered freshwater mussels in Texas using environmental DNA (eDNA).

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a related field and have some experience working in a laboratory setting with genetics or molecular biology. Successful candidates must demonstrate an aptitude for research and the ability to work independently. Prior experience with freshwater ecosystems is preferred. Experience with PCR, DNA sequencing and processing is preferred. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3 is required. The available assistantships have stipends of $1,833 per month for two years, and full tuition support.
