Emissions reduction target by 2030

The highest emissions reduction target, conditional or unconditional, included in the country’s latest NDC.

Mexico submitted its updated NDC in November 2022.

In its updated NDC, Mexico has increased its mitigation targets, aiming for a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030, compared to a 22% reduction established in its previous submission in 2020.
If external support is secured, Mexico commits to a GHG reduction of 40% by 2030, increasing its previous conditional target of 36%.
The unconditional and conditional targets for reduction in black carbon emissions by 2030 remain at 51% and 70%, respectively.
The updated NDC includes the implementation of the country’s National Strategy for the Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (ENAREDD+).
The adaption components remain the same as in the previous NDC.
In this updated NDC, the country confirms its plans to increase its clean energy production to 40 GW, which could help power about 30 million homes a year, by 2030.
